BKS Equine Appraisals

Kate Shook offers professional certified equine appraisals for multiple breeds and disciplines.

Equine appraisals may be used for a number of reasons: purchases, sales and leases, injuries, divorces, insurance claims, tax purposes and donations, bankruptcies, business partnerships and ownership agreements.

BKS appraisals are prepared in accordance with the guidelines contained in the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and the American Society of Equine Appraisers (ASEA). As a Certified Equine Appraiser I am bound by the ASEA code of ethics and can provide you with an accurate, fact-based and unbiased appraisal for any horse. My appraisals are based on years of personal experience, as well as on extensive market research and analysis and will hold up to the toughest professional or court scrutiny.

Factors to consider when determining a horse’s value:

    • Physical traits such as age, health, conformation and disposition
    • Value of sire, dam and offspring
    • Breed and type characteristics, pedigree and background
    • Accomplishments including training, show records, prizes and earnings

Factors that do not affect a horse’s value:

    • Emotional attachment or perceived value
    • Costs of ownership i.e. maintenance, veterinarian bills and financial investment
